The Mirror Does Not Lie!
Introduction - Who has looked into a mirror today?
How do I look?
Is everything in place?
Adjustments?
Do you realise that you’ve never seen your face?
Contradictions…
Never question the accuracy of the mirror
We NEVER question whether the mirror is telling the truth
It is a true and accurate reflection of what we look like
We TRUST the mirror because we know that the mirror DOES NOT LIE
James 1:22-25 - Be doers of the Word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
The Word of God is our mirror
True and accurate reflection of who we are in Christ and everything that God has given us by His grace
Loved, forgiven, healed, wisdom, protection…
Study our reflection in a natural mirror
Study reflection in the mirror of God’s Word
If something is out of place, we can make adjustments
Just like a natural mirror, When the contradiction shows up, we will recognise them immediately
When symptoms of sickness show up - mirror says in 1 Peter 2:24 - the mirror does not lie!
Fear, anxiety, depression - mirror says in 2 Timothy 1:7 I do not have a spirit of fear
Plagues, viruses, danger, terror - mirror says (Isaiah 54:17) no weapon formed…
No matter what negative circumstances are going on in our life, we have to go to the mirror and find out what God says about us - who we really are
Question on everyone’s lips -
HOW DO I GET WHAT I HAVE on the inside to be seen on the outside?
It’s not enough to just KNOW what we look like in the mirror
We have to take ACTION based on what we see
God calls this being a DOER of the Word
James 1:22-25 - Be doers of the Word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
We can listen to sermons and teachings all day long
We can know all about what the Bible says about healing, prosperity, love, joy and peace
We can study the Word all day long and know all the Greek and Hebrew definitions…
We can stare at ourselves in the mirror of the Word all day long
But unless we DO the Word we are hearing, God says that we will forget what kind of man we are
We are deceiving ourselves (deluding, kidding) ourselves.
- We are deceiving ourselves that we will get any kind of results from what we are hearing
So it is essential that we find out HOW to be a DOER of the Word and not a hearer only
How do we DO the Word?
How do we take action based on what we see in the mirror?
(Its super simple!)
1. 2 Corinthians 4:13 - And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written I believed and therefore I spoke - we also believe and therefore speak.
If we believe the Word, we will speak the Word
“Believe” = same root word as “faith”
If we have faith in God and His Word, we must SAY what God says about us
If we believe what we see in the mirror, we must SPEAK what we see in the mirror
If we believe “By His Stripes…”
A doer of the Word will SPEAK the Word (also known as CONFESSING the Word)
2. Matthew 17:20 - “…Assuredly I say to you, if you have faith as mustard seed, you will SAY to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,” and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.”
- The emphasis is usually put on the size of the faith
Notice it doesn’t say you might say, it says you WILL say
It doesn’t matter how big or small you think your faith is - if you will SPEAK IT, the mountain has to obey you.
If we believe what we see in the mirror, we must AGREE WITH what we see in the mirror.
If we have faith in the Word of God, we will SPEAK the Word of God.
Example of Abraham;
He had a promise from God (stars and sand)
24 years passed and he saw no manifestation (except he created an Ishmael)
God put the promise in his mouth - AbraHAM
One year later the promise was born
Something that was scientifically, medically and physically impossible became possible because Abraham put Gods’ promise in his mouth and agreed with it.
- 2 Corinthians 1:20 (NIV) - For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through Him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.
There’s a promise in the Word of God that covers EVERY situation, EVERY problem, EVERY circumstance in our life - they are YOUR great and precious promises!
We have to speak our “amen”!
We have faith in the Word of God, therefore we SPEAK the Word of God.
We trust what we see in the mirror, and so we AGREE WITH what we see in the mirror.
Why does God emphasise the “speaking” so much?
Romans 12:2 - And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
- Renovating our minds
